Many studies have shown marked improvement in anxiety symptoms in patients that practice mindful meditation, yoga, and/or related relaxation techniques. Meditation times of at least 20 minutes a day appear to provide the greatest benefit. Regular exercise has also been demonstrated to alleviate anxious symptoms. Many people begin to see improvements in symptoms with 30 minutes of physical activity every other day. Diet can also play a role in anxiety; reducing or eliminating caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol consumption can improve anxiety symptoms in many people.
